Heinz has saddened shoppers by axing an iconic pudding many millennials grew up eating.

Its Taste of Home Super Sticky Treacle Sponge Pudding is no longer be available at supermarkets in the UK as the company has discontinued the product. One shopper was told on X, formerly known as Twitter, there are no plans for the item to return.

And the news is disappointing for many, some of whom shared happy memories of eating the pudding frequently when they grew up. Ann Thornton had asked Heinz on X: "Why were the treacle & chocolate tinned steamed puddings discontinued? We miss them so much. None of the other available puds are as good. Please bring them back."

But the response was: "Sorry Ann, but there are no plans to bring them back I'm afraid." Ann's praise was echoed by other social media users, including those on Reddit and Facebook. Posting on the former, one person said: "I wondered where those went. They were actually quite nice."

Another Reddit user posted today: "These used to be a godsend during hiking camps in the Scouts." A Facebook user wrote on the social media site: "It was my favourite one." Another Facebook user said: "That's such a shame."

But others criticised the pudding, saying it took ages to steam or microwave and its consistency was stodgy. One Reddit user posted: "You could use them as actual bathroom sponges. Or door stops."

It comes as Cadbury confirmed that the "best chocolate bar it's ever made" has been discontinued. The decision to axe the popular Peanut Caramel Crisp Bars was also met with sadness in November.

And Walkers has also confirmed it has axed a hugely popular crisp flavour for good - and shoppers say their sandwiches are ruined. Walkers will no longer be making Worcester Sauce crisps, much to the ire of fans on social media.
