FEMALE Olympians will never win gold again if they have to compete against transgender athletes, says World Athletics president Seb Coe.

Lord Coe, who last year announced a ban on trans women from female competitions, said the matter was clear-cut.

The former Tory MP told a podcast that the sport had simply “followed the science”.

Coe, the 1980 and 1984 Olympic 1500m champion, said: “The decision ultimately was based on one very simple proposition

“I am elected to protect the female category and if I don’t do that no woman will ever win another medal again.”

He said trans athletes should still be able to compete at lower levels.

And he has not ruled out the introduction of a third category for trans women but said it would “still be a male category”.

His comments come days after British swimmer Sharron Davies - who lost out on gold in 1980 to an opponent taking testosterone - warned against trans women competing with females.
