Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is set to miss the Carabao Cup final according to reports in his native Hungary.
Szoboszlai had only recently returned from a hamstring injury sustained against Newcastle on New Year's Day, appearing off the bench in the 5-2 FA Cup win over Norwich and scoring in the 4-1 Premier League success over Chelsea.
However, he was absent from the squad which lost at Arsenal on Sunday, and he is now set for between three to four weeks on the sidelines according to a report from Index in Hungary.
They state that the attacking midfielder will miss up to seven or eight matches for Liverpool, ruling him out of the clash with Chelsea at Wembley on February 25.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was unable to elaborate much on Szoboszlai's injury before the Arsenal game, stating that it appeared to be a recurrance of his previous issue.
Premier League odds and betting tips“Dom felt in the same area, or pretty much a similar area, to where he was injured before," he said. “Not in the game [against Chelsea], he was fine, and then after the game [he felt it] slightly so we had a look at it and there was now no chance for him to be involved in this game.
“We cannot take any risk. We have to wait for further assessment but it was clear that he cannot be involved today. That’s it, pretty much.”
Szoboszlai has enjoyed a superb first season at Liverpool since joining from RB Leipzig in the summer, becoming a key part of their midfield rebuild. His goal against Chelsea was his fifth in 28 appearances for the club.
In his absence at the Emirates Klopp selected the Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who struggled before being replaced by Harvey Elliott in what was just the Reds' second Premier League defeat this season.
Despite the loss of Szoboszlai, Liverpool will be boosted by the return of Japan midfielder Wataru Endo from the Asian Cup ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Burnley at Anfield, a match for which Mo Salah is also set to come into contention for.
Right-back Conor Bradley could also return to the fold after missing the Arsenal defeat following the death of his father.
