GHD'S latest hair innovation has arrived; the GHD Chronos. It promises ultra-fast and long-lasting styling - and it's my favourite tool yet.
Many of us have had our "trusty ghd’s for over 10 years now", and whilst we love their longevity, there's nothing like upgrading to the latest technology.
GHD launches the GHD Chronos, and it's greatCredit: GHD- GHD Chronos, £289 - buy here
Introducing the GHD Chronos, GHD's latest hair tool, and what they are calling 'the holy grail of hair styling'.
Priced at £289, and available now from ghdhair.com, the new Chronos tool promises next-level shine, with a glossy finish and healthier hair.
Luckily, I managed to get a sneak peek of the new tool, and I tried the new GHD Chronos before it hit the market - and I was pretty impressed; but more on that later.
How to de-clutter if you have a beauty stash to last you a lifetimeThe GHD Chronos promises three times faster styling using cutting-edge tech.
Chronos has HD responsive technology which consistently adapts as you style to provide faster styling with one stroke whatever your hair type.
At the same time, it also delivers 85% more shine; for a smoother sleeker style, and more defined curls and waves, two times less frizz; thanks to GHD's optimum 185°C styling temperature that lasts 24 hours; which together means healthier hair, and three times more breakage protection.
Combined, it means it's one hell of a straightener, with GHD saying Chronos delivers the same premium results, but even better than before.
But did I agree?
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
Pros
- Faster results - have to run through hairs less times
- Hair has more shine
- Lighter tool
- Floating plates mean less pressure on hair
- Rounded Barrell helps with more precise styling
Cons
- Expensive
- Smaller
- Only one temperature control
How we tested
I tested the GHD Chronos on freshly washed, and blow-dried hair - where I found it had the strongest results.
I've used it several times since, and it also performed strongly on all hair types, as well as day two hair.
I used it for straightening my hair, with quick, good results but also tested curling my hair with the styler to see how well it could create waves and curls.
GHD Chronos review: First impressions
The new GHD Chronos are here and I'm obsessedCredit: Harriet FlookUpon first opening the GHD Chronos I was surprised to see that it looked smaller than some of their other models - but size isn't everything, it's all about the performance.
Plugging it in, and turning it on you're met with the usual GHD sound (if you've owned a pair of their Platinum straighteners you'll know what I mean).
We've put shampoos and conditioners to the test to help your hair glimmerThere's one button to turn on (as usual) which is in the middle of the device, which illuminates when switched on, but handily the end of the straightener there's a light to show that it's on and hot - great, if like me you panic about leaving them on.
They heat up quickly to GHD's optimum 185C and are ready to use within a matter of seconds.
Nothing feels too out of the ordinary yet, but so far so good.
The curved plates make for easier stylingCredit: HARRIET FLOOKGHD Chronos Review: Performance
GHD Chronos is being called GHD's "holy grail of styling" thanks to its breakthrough "HD Motion responsive technology and the ultimate performance and styling speed" - which means faster styling, GHD claims up to three times faster to be precise.
It also promises a shinier finish with 85% more shine, two times less frizz and three times more breakage protection.
But did it do what it said on the tin?
At first, I was apprehensive about the (slightly) smaller size; I have thick hair, which means it's lighter to hold in your hand, and a smaller straightener usually means more work for me. However, its sleek, curved plates mean you have more control over how you use it and deliver expert results.
I found I only needed to run it through my hair once; so yes, GHD's claims of 'one-stroke styling' were true.
Having split it into two sections I found that my hair was done in around five to ten minutes, and the result was smooth and sleek with noticeably fewer flyaways.
I quickly curled a few sections before smoothing down, and the result was tight curls which held - again, the curved plates helped to create a more defined shape, and the lightness of the device meant it was easier on my wrists too.
The floating plates are also worth noting, as they help to put less pressure on the hair, delivering long-lasting styling with less damage (the ultimate goal), and my hair didn't feel damaged or singed after using the Chronos.
Best of all, my finished look lasted. I have fine hair but a lot of it, and whether I straighten or curl my hair, my style never seems to last, so I was pleased to see that these did.
However, with the Chronos, my hair looked sleek, straight, and frizz-free for hours - and still pretty sleek in the morning (despite shoving it up in a bun to sleep).
I struggled to find much wrong with the Chronos; it is GHD but better, and is now my go-to tool. Honestly, since it arrived on my desk I can't stop using it.
Super straight in a matter of minutesCredit: HARRIET FLOOKThe verdict: is the GHD Chronos worth it?
I love the GHD Chronos, I'm fully converted.
It's fast, and light and I love the finish it gives my hair.
The one caveat is the price, at £289 it's not cheap, and much more expensive than some of GHD's tools (the GHD Gold is priced at £189, and the Original, at £139).
But with the Platinum+ pried at £239, the Max at £209, and the Duet at £379 - it's also in keeping with GHD's pricing.
If you are looking to buy a new pair of straighteners then we would recommend these as your next purchase, they take everything we love about GHD and turn it up a notch - making it easier, and quicker to style your hair with less noticeable and long-lasting damage.
Which let's be honest is what we all want from our hair tools.
So does it hold the title of the 'holy grail' of straighteners as they claim? Well, they're pretty darn close.
