Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed he is “getting better” as he attempts to overcome his injury woes.
The Hungarian midfielder has been suffering from a hamstring issue since being withdrawn during the thrilling 4-2 victory against Newcastle at Anfield on New Year's Day. He was taken off just after the hour mark.
Jurgen Klopp revealed in the aftermath of that game that he would undergo further testing. Szoboszlai was forced to sit out of the recent FA Cup clash with Arsenal. He has now given a fresh update and is optimistic of returning sooner rather than later.
Speaking after being named Hungary’s Male Athlete of the Year, the Liverpool playmaker said: “I’m getting better. The first game of the year didn’t go as planned [for me], but it won’t take long and I’ll be back.”
Speaking further after claiming his award, Szoboszlai added: “I won the German Cup for the second time with Leipzig, and then I transferred to Liverpool, but the highlight of the year for me was the march with the national team, another qualification to the European Championship.

While his is optimistic of a return, Liverpool's assistant boss Pep Ljinders has already ruled him out of the Reds' first leg of their Carabao Cup showdown with Fulham. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: "Dom is progressing well on the pitch, he's running, so let's see. Not available for tomorrow." Lijnders also revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold faces a spell on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury.

The Reds’ next assignment after that comes against Bournemouth in the Premier League next weekend. Should he return by then, Szoboszlai will hope to respond to Rio Ferdinand ’s latest comments. The former Manchester United defender has been highly critical of the ex-RB Leipzig star’s performances.
“I know everyone is hyping him, but I don’t think Dominik Szoboszlai has done (as well as people make out),” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five YouTube show. "He's a good player but people are saying 'oh, he’s the next [Steven] Gerrard!' and I haven’t seen that yet.
"I see bare of their [fans'] comments. But one of my mates in my group always says it. But he is easy on the eye.”
Since moving to Anfield from Leipzig in the summer for a fee of £60m, Szoboszlai has made 26 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions. He has scored on four occasions and notched three assists in that time.
