Gillian Anderson has opened up about why she opted to wear a dress decorated with vaginas for her Golden Globes red carpet.
The actress stunned fans on Sunday dressed in the strapless white custom-made gown which was designed by Gabriela Hearst. The dress initially looked like a simple and classic design before fans zoomed in on the detailed embroidery to the skirt of the gown and realised what they were looking at.
When asked on the red carpet why she chose the garment Gillian coolly shrugged as she told Deadline: "Oh for so many reasons. It's brand appropriate." She then went on to telll Extra that the dress was a collaboration between Hearst and her "alternative wellness brand," G Spot.

She used the Sanskrit word for womb as she explained further: "Yonis, there are so many yonis on my dress. It took 3 1/2 hours per yoni to embroider, and there are a lot. So it was about 150 hours of embroidering."

I wanted to bring this element into the design."
Gillian cranked up the fun side to her outfit by taking to instagram to share a photo of herself eating dinner captioning it: "Sometimes you just need a sausage to go with your yoni dress." Gabriela meanwhile shared an Instagram post detailing how the dress was created as she labelled it "vulvaliciously chic."
She wrote: "Gillian wears an ivory wool silk structure cady corset gown with custom embroidery. Made entirely in New York City, the embroidery was crafted in the garment district and the gown was assembled at the in-house studio. Each motif took approximately 3.5 hours to embroider."
Fans of Gillian and her look then took to social media to heap praise on her and her gown. One wrote: "Gillian Anderson wearing a dress embroidered with vaginas oh she is and will always be the moment."
