It will go down in history as the best year of his life.

And, incredibly, Manchester City midfielder Rodri finished the best 12 months of his career unbeaten having not lost a single game for his club while winning five trophies along the way.

‌It is a stat which Rodri says makes him incredibly proud as he swept the board with City and also won the Nations League with Spain. Rodri said: “Yeah, I’ve seen it. I think yesterday was one year, since the first of the victories. I’m very happy for that. It’s a team sport so it’s always about the team but I’m very happy for that.

‌“For me, last season was unbelievable. If you dream for a season, you dream how a season could be, how individual performances, collective performances, ups and downs in the season and we are like a family, like a team and how it finished is just a dream.

‌“It finished so, so well. It was so emotional. We made history but the way we did it, with how much effort we made for all these years to arrive in this situation. Everything was perfect.

‌“Also with my national team and it was a remarkable year for me. I’m so happy for that. Yeah, of course it was my best year in every sense. In terms of individual performance, in terms of maturity in the game and the team with the players we brought in. It was everything.”

However, the midfielder has warned that City face a tough task to repeat their successes this season, believing they are facing their toughest ever battle to win the title.

‌City are trying for a fourth straight title but Rodri says the competition from their rivals like Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa has never been greater and it will go to the wire. He said: “Since I arrived, every year has been tougher! I think this year we have two more contenders for the title or even three if you want to add Villa. It’s even harder when you have more opponents.

‌“I don’t expect it will be decided in one month’s time. I think it will go to the last game. But we will be ready for that.

“I knew Liverpool would come back, Liverpool with Klopp and the players they had all these years. Of course it was a new cycle for them, all those players leaving but you see the way they lay. It’s the same. They changed the players but they play the same and I expect them to be there.

‌“We all see what Arsenal are able to do. They beat Liverpool in a very good way. It’s a team that last year they almost did everything perfect. Almost. This year they are doing great. So they will be there as well.

‌“Villa are showing a big step forward, a lot of them are doing great. Tottenham also, a big upgrade in the way they are performing.”
