I recently found out that there's a way to use shampoo that might be a lot more effective than what I thought was normal. I, like many others my age, was convinced after watching Lizzie McGuire that you're supposed to rinse, lather and not repeat because apparently Ethan Craft's word is gospel.

But it turns out there's a better way, I headed down to Salon64 to have my hair and scalp analysed by Claire Martin.

First up we used Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Moisturising & Detangling Shampoo and I was so impressed by the smell. This range is aimed at type 4 hair so I wouldn't typically gravitate towards it but it smells so delicious I'm so glad I got to try it. We used a lot more shampoo than I'd normally use and left it on for a little longer but my scalp did feel much cleaner. With an extreme close up I could see it looked healthier too.

I'll spare you from having to look at my scalp pre special treatment because I, myself, was grossed out by the extreme close up even if I was told it was a fairly healthy scalp.

I went to the appointment with bedhead, looking to see what was best for my hair without having a bunch of products on my scalp and strands and Claire informed me that for those of us with a lot of hair it can actually be a good idea to put shampoo directly onto our dry scalps before getting your hair and scalp wet. This ensures the product can do what it's supposed to on our scalps.

I was reminded of fruity gourmand perfumes as the aroma filled the salon and nearly 24 hours later my hair still smells delicious. Next up was the Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner. I always use leave in conditioner when styling my hair, I find it keeps frizz at bay and provides nourishment that my curls need. This product worked exactly as I'd expect it to but once again I was so impressed by the smell.

We tried two different styling products on my hair but the one it liked better was the Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Curl Smoothie. I love a curl smoothie usually and often find myself reaching for the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

The end result was defined curls that smelled beautiful, although I am now conscious one side of my hair appears to grow much faster than the other - unless it's a result of trialling two different products at the back and one providing much more shrinkage.

Overall I liked these products, I do think they work quite similarly to the likes of Shea Moisture and Cantu and as a result I will probably use them interchangeably going forward depending on what I want my hair to smell like on any given day. I like how nourished my scalp feels and soft my curls are. You can shop the Mielle range at most retailers you can find shampoo.
