BRITS travelling through one of the UK's much-loved airports will soon be able to get to their flights much easier.

East Midlands Airport has revealed plans for its huge £120million renovation project.

The main aim of the refurbishment is to speed up the queues at airport security, which can often be the biggest cause for delays.

The works will include new body and baggage scanners with improved technology.

The new rules are part of the huge rollout across the UK which will see the 100ml rule scrapped for Brits, with some airports also ditching it.

The security hall will also be expanded, with other works improving the toilets and seating.

Some of the taxiways will also be resurfaced, to allow for more modern aircraft at the airport, as well as updates to the drop off area at the front of the airport.

Work has already started, and will continue for the next five years.

Steve Griffiths, East Midlands Airport's managing director, said: "We're always looking at ways to improve and this investment will help us do that over the next five years and beyond.

"This is the start of a very exciting period for the airport. Our passenger numbers are almost back to pre-Covid levels and our already significant air cargo operation has capacity to expand, along with the potential for growth and investment that the East Midlands Freeport brings.

“This programme of substantial investment at EMA demonstrates our confidence in the future and will help to improve the experience of flying from and trading through East Midlands Airport."

Around four million passengers use East Midlands Airport a year, with budget airlines such as Ryanair, TUI and Jet2 in operation.

Last year, the airport was even named the best medium sized airport in the country in the 2023 British Travel Awards.

It's not the only UK airport currently undergoing huge renovation works.

Teesside Airport, which was named the best small airport, has revealed plans for a new £20million train station.

Leeds Braford Airport has started it's £100million renovation project which includes a three-storey terminal extension as well as better seats and facilities inside.

And Gatwick Airport revealed it's £250million refurbishment which reopened last year.

A new concourse, airport entrance, escalators and lifts were installed at Gatwick Airport train station, with new track upgrades also speeding up trains to and from the terminals.

A new airport is set to soon launch in Europe - with rumours of Ryanair flights from the UK.
