The New York Jets have been warned not to pursue a blockbuster trade for "diva" Aaron Rodgers after being tipped as a possible landing spot for the four-time MVP.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports it is a "real possibility" Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers part ways after 18 seasons, with the asking price for the 39-year-old believed to be in the region of two first-round picks, according to Peter King.

With a stacked roster that was held back by woeful quarterback play this season, the 7-10 Jets have been mooted as a team that would be willing to do business with Green Bay, but NFL legend Shannon Sharpe is tired of the yearly cycle of off-season drama surrounding Rodgers and he does not believe he is worth the price.

"I don't (see Rodgers being traded) because I don't see the compensation and the salary," he said on Undisputed. "Peter King is reporting they are going to want at least two first-round picks and you are going to have to pay $60m.

"If that was Joe Burrow or Patrick Mahomes, I would probably give up two first-round picks because I'm going to have them for the next 10 years. You're not going to have Aaron Rodgers for that length of time, so let's say for the sake of argument you have him for two more years. I think that is too much compensation, too big of a package.

"Who knows, he might retire, and then what? I don't see it (a trade) happening, but I don't see him retiring either. Now, if someone was to say a two and a three, maybe the Jets could do that because they believe they have a team that is ready to compete for a title right now, especially defensively, but I don't see it.

"How many times are we going to go through this in the off-season? Damnit, we've been going through this since I've been on this show, almost seven years, and every year is about Aaron Rodgers; will he or won't he? I am tired of this."

Co-host Skip Bayless believes the Packers have had enough of Rodgers, who last week said was not "mentally or emotionally" ready to make a decision on his future.

Indecision in the off-season has become a staple part of the Aaron Rodgers Experience in recent years, but Bayless says if the Packers are ready to part ways, they are going to need to lower their asking price.

He said: "As sick and tired as you are of him, I believe that organisation is even more so sick and tired of him. That's why this story is out there; they want it open for business that they open to listening to whatever offer you can come up with.

"The problem is he is 39 years of age, he is a handful, to put it mildly, and everybody sees how diva he can get, so some teams might say 'We'll take him off your hands for the next two years for $50m and $50m, but we're not going to give you much of anything.

"If they want to get out from under him, they're going to have to take way less than two first-round picks."
