THE Pogues singer Shane MacGowan has shared an alarming health update after being taken to hospital.
The 65-year-old star went to hospital earlier this month, as revealed by his wife Victoria May Clarke.
Victoria, 56, did not say what was wrong with the star at the time, but he’s known to have faced health problems in recent years.
Now, Shane has shared an update with fans while filming a video wishing his followers a happy New Year.
The star revealed he was suffering from encephalitis in the clip – this is a serious condition when the brain becomes inflamed.

Shane could be seen at home in the video, and wore sunglasses and a blue top.
The musician said: “Hi friends, I'm sitting here suffering from encephalitis.
“The light is killing me [...] but I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year and Happy Christmas.
“And many more, and all the luck in the world and all the love. Happy Christmas and Happy New Year, love Shane.”
The singer rose to fame as a founding member of punk band The Pogues, who are perhaps still best-known today for Christmas song Fairytale of New York.
In 2016, he broke his pelvis during a fall and later broke his knee and damaged ligaments in another accident.
He was last seen in November, when he used a wheelchair to attend an exhibition of his own art.
After he was taken to hospital, his wife tweeted: “Please send prayers and healing vibes to @ShaneMacGowan in hospital again and really hoping to get out asap!! Thank you."
Fans quickly obliged after Victoria's appeals for prayers today, with one writing: "God bless ya Shane absolute legend here’s hoping for a speedy recovery mate."
Another replied: "Sending love, positivity and prayers for a beautiful man."

Victoria and Shane, who have been together for over 35 years, finally married in Denmark in 2018.
