Following rave reviews for Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job, I can reveal the pals have begun work on series three — and could be off to Portugal.

The BBC shows involve them snapping up derelict homes through the One Euro scheme. They do them up then flog them for charity.

They regularly pull in more than 2.5million viewers with a gentle mix of DIY and nonsense. But the hosts might just need to rename their next run of episodes.

Alan said: “We’ve loved making two series of Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job, but we’re not doing a third there — we’ve done enough Italy now.

“I had a great time performing stand-up in Lisbon recently, so maybe the plan could be to restore a house in Portugal.”

The duo are making their decision on which country to relocate to ahead of filming in March.

The pair dreamt up the concept themselves after Amanda read about the scheme to bring in new investors and boost rural regions of Europe during lockdown.

She said the format felt like “a reality show”.

Alan added: “We were there for months. One day it felt like it was Wish You Were Here . . . ?, then Grand Designs, then it was like Love Island!”

I don’t think Lisbon is ready for this.

JOHN TORODE and his wife Lisa Faulkner are off on an Oz road trip for their new ITV1 show Food Trip Down Under.

Lisa said: “I must say that I prefer John to drive. I just sit and take in the scenery.”

John added: “Did we quarrel over the map reading? No, Lisa couldn’t read a map either.”

PAUL UPS TRAITORS DRAMA

TRAITORS villain Paul Gorton has increased the hype ahead of its return tonight.

The BBC One reality show ended on a cliffhanger last Friday when fan favourite Diane Carson was given a “poisoned” chalice by Traitor Miles Asteri, leaving viewers gagging for the next update.

Social media has been flooded with theories the retired teacher refuses the fizzy pink wine which, if sipped, would see her out of the game.

Paul and his fellow baddies Miles and Harry Clarke were behind the plot to “murder” a Faithful player.

Now he’s teased what is to come after being pestered by fans frustrated by the five-day wait.

He said: “You’ll be thankful for the days off after you witness what’s coming.”

Almost 20million viewers hang on every word, Paul.

MURDER MASTERS

TODAY’S TV audiences might have a big appetite for true crime – but the Victorians apparently beat us for gore.

Forensic psychologist Kerry Daynes, who investigates 19th-century crimes in new Quest Red show The Victorian Murder Files, said: “We had our own boom in true crime content recently.

"But these Victorian crimes, they are more gruesome and grisly, full of twists and turns and brutal dead ends. These people had a real love for the macabre.

“The display of gross crime-scene artefacts, including body parts, were common-place and even celebrated.

“Their stomachs were made of much stronger stuff than what modern audiences can handle.”

ROISIN CONATY got more than she bargained for after taking medication when she lost hearing in one of her ears overnight.

The comic and actress said on Russell Howard's Wonderbox podcast: “They dosed me up on steroids which make me feel very pumped. I did feel strong.”

JAMES: MY FUN FACE

JAMES BUCKLEY says people find him comical even when he’s not playing for laughs.

And the star of Channel 5 drama Finders Keepers thinks its because he’s just “funny looking”.

The Inbetweeners favourite plays metal detectorist Ashley alongside Neil Morrissey in the new series, which starts tonight at 9pm.

They play a father and son-in-law who discover a Saxon hoard and try to sell it.

James said: “I don’t actually think I’m a particularly funny person. I think that maybe I’m just funny looking and that’s why they laugh when they see me on telly.

“I’ve never approached any job as if it were a comedy, even when I was doing The Inbetweeners.”
