A man has started a 'war' with his neighbours who keep 'stealing' his parking space - but not everybody agrees with his methods. He told users of Reddit that he had found a number of people were either using parking spaces he and his neighbours were paying for or were simply blocking them in – so instead of asking for the offending cars to be towed, he started a bit of guerrilla warfare.

The man said that he lived in a rented apartment off-campus and that 'offenders' would park somewhere in the driveway, thus either taking the space or blocking in other cars, and that some of these people actually lived in the same block while others were visitors.

So, at first he began by dropping slices of smelly, expired provolone cheese, which he called "cheese drop" onto the cars in question, but when he found that his offending neighbours just rejoiced in his "petty" action and his obvious frustration, he escalated the conflict.

He said: "The three of us that parked there were responsible for shovelling the driveway when it snowed. The guys above us would always let their friends drive over the snow before we could shovel. When we had a big snowstorm, we noticed they had let one of their friends park in our driveway.

"We told them he needed to move, and his solution was to pull up off the driveway into the neighbours’ yard rather than leave (the neighbours’ wifi was literally named 'DO NOT PARK IN OUR YARD'. They left us his number, and I texted him and said he couldn’t stay there overnight. He told me that I could move the car myself if we wanted it moved."

He then told other posters that the next time it snowed, he and his neighbours barricaded his car with several feet of snow on all sides. They also locked up their shovels. He said he watched from his apartment as the car owners discovered their car fully blocked in, but managed to dig it out.

The student said that message was ignored to, so he then designed his own parking tickets and ticket envelopes, which he proceeded to issue every time a car would park in the driveway. He said: "I got great satisfaction knowing they would get that feeling of panic upon seeing an orange envelope on their windshield. Needless to say, a lot fewer people parked in my driveway after that."

But fellow users of the site said that he was being a bit petty and that most of what he did couldn't be counted as revenge. They said that he could have solved the problem by taking official action just once instead of acting without authority. One said: "Why not just have their cars towed? I don't get it. You went to all this trouble for people you clearly disliked. Having their cars towed would have cost them money and would have probably solved it quickly."

Another user said: "It seems they got more into your mind than you got into theirs. A single time getting their cars towed would have saved you years of thought," while another said that: "Yeah, this isn’t really 'revenge' at all in my opinion. maybe the 'barricading their car with snow' thing, but everything else is just excessive and dumb." A third quipped: "This is a level of pettiness I aspire to."

However, others were happy to offer advice on other (fairly brutal) actions he could take, with one saying: "Super Glue does a number on wipers. The rubber rips off when the wipers are started," and another said: "Just smash the window to turn off brakes then push it out of the way. Works every time."
