Finding a decent car parking space close to your house can be a nightmare, especially if you live in a built-up area where lots of neighbours have cars and nobody has a driveway.

And while most of us have come to accept that roadside parking is a free-for-all, one man has been left fuming after his neighbour decided to take matters into his own hands - by putting up fake signs that tell unsuspecting drivers they're not allowed to park in the space outside his house.

The man claimed his neighbour has a driveway, but still insists on printing out "no parking" signs which he puts up on the lamppost outside of his house in an attempt to keep the spot free for himself.

In a post on Reddit, the man shared a picture of his street and wrote: "My neighbour (with a driveway) putting up a fake 'No Stopping' sign in front of my home to save parking for himself. What can I do?

"They just moved in and are giving the whole block a headache!"

Commenters on the post were quick to point out that although the neighbour's signs are annoying, there's nothing stopping the man from continuing to park in the space since he knows the signs are fake.

One person said: "Keep parking there. It will deter others, who don't know, from taking the spot. You won't get fined, because it's not real. Ignore the neighbours."

While another added: "You can take that sign down. You have as much right to do that as he has to put it up. The cops aren't going to want to deal with this guy. I've seen this exact situation before."

And a third posted: "Just keep taking it down, can't really stop him but you can ignore him."

Other commenters said they'd had similar experiences with their neighbours, including one who claimed someone on their street was even handing out fake parking tickets.

Someone wrote: "I had a neighbour that did this and would write parking tickets. One day he even got to the point of spray painting the kerb yellow so nobody would park there.

"After he wrote a ticket for a disabled lady visiting the neighbour, the police were finally called. The police came out and made him scrub the paint off."

As someone else shared: "That reminds me of this neighbour at the end of the block. Property owners on that half of the block each own half the alley, while on my end of the block, the city owns all of the alleys. She started putting up plastic barrels filled with concrete pieces to block access to the alley.

"A neighbour between us asked others on the block to sign a petition and went to City Hall. Turns out long before the end-neighbour owned the house, all the people on that end of the block, on both sides of the alley got together and signed an agreement to keep the alley open to the public.

"Either the neighbour didn't know about the agreement or thought no one else did. The city made her move the barrels."
