Didier Drogba's embrace with Victor Osimhen has got Chelsea fans hoping their ex-player is aiding their hopes of signing the Nigerian.
Osimhen has departed club duties to lead his nation at the Africa Cup of Nations. His exploits with Napoli have made him one of Europe's top marksman and he has no shortage of suitors who would happily add him to their squad - Chelsea among them.
Drogba remains an icon in Africa and will forever be etched into Stamford Bridge history following his Champions League heroics in 2012. Nigeria took on hosts Ivory Coast yesterday with Osimhen's men running out as 1-0 winners.
Before the contest Drogba and Osimhen came across each other in the tunnel and shared a quick hug. Chelsea fans are now hoping that the Ivorian put in a good word for the Blues as they seek to address their forward problems with Napoli's leading light on their radar.
One fan said: "Telling to come to Chelsea. Super agent Drogba." Another added: "Didier Drogba please convince him to Join Chelsea." And a third said: "Osimhen to Chelsea looks done imo (in my opinion)".
Premier League odds and betting tipsThe Nigerian recently penned a new deal in Naples which keeps him at the club until 2026 and sets his release clause at €120m. That would leave Chelsea needing to break their transfer record once again if they did want to land Osimhen's signature.
The player himself has outlined his ambition to eventually play in the Premier League but maintains he is happy where he is. "Of course one day, definitely," he told Sky Sports when asked if he wants to play in the Premier League. "But for now, I have other plans in my career that I am looking forward to. So when the time comes, everyone knows."
Osimhen also added: "I am happy with the president. I have a good relationship with him. I cannot lie. He has been with me since I signed for the club in 2020. I have a good relationship with his family also and for me it is always important to make sure we have this good relationship, to make sure there is nothing wrong regardless of what has happened.
"So for me, he has been the kind of president who has been supportive to me outside the pitch and of course, I make sure I give my all and try to win the Scudetto for them. For me, it is always important to have this kind of relationship, to be happy with the owner of the club."
