The University of Idaho murder suspect had a job interview with the same police force that arrested him - after sending a gushing email to them.

The man accused of stabbing Madison Mogen, 21; Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Ethan Chapin, 20 to death Bryan Kohberger, 28, reportedly met with Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins on April 12, 2022.

Kohberger, who was a PHD student at Washington State University, was keen on landing a three-year research assistant job in public safety, according to the New York Times.

The student reportedly followed up their meeting with a gushing email in newly released documents.

He wrote to the police chief: "It was a great pleasure to meet with you today and share my thoughts and excitement regarding the research assistantship for public safety.

"I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Bryan."

The officer responded: "Great to meet and talk to you as well."

Koberger, who was studying for a doctorate in Criminology, applied for the job after the role was offered by Washington State University.

It was due to start on August 22.

The job description said: "The purpose of these positions is to support each agency through data management and analysis, and to position them for success when they seek external funding."

However, it is unclear if it is the same job referenced in the probable case affidavit which was filed in the investigation of the four students stabbed to death on November 13 in Moscow, Idaho.

The affidavit says he "wrote an essay when he applied for an internship with the Pullman Police Department in the fall of 2022."

Koberger also had "interest in assisting rural law enforcement agencies with how to better collect and analyse technological data in public safety operations," according to Inside Edition.

The newly released emails suggest the suspect had got down to the last four candidates and was being considered for the police role.

The news comes after the same police department, which Kohberger applied for, was also the same police force that arrested the suspect.

Police located the suspect's vehicle and carried out a search on his Washington State University campus in addition to the office he shared with two other teaching assistants, in December.

Documents released on Tuesday stated investigators seized bedding and strands of hair along with a single glove when they searched the suspect's student flat.

However, no weapon was found during the search.

Police also found a Fire TV stick, one Walmart receipt with a single Dickies tag, two Marshall's receipts, one nitrate-type black glove, and a dust container from a 'Bissell Power Force' vacuum.

All the items are being kept at the Washington State University Police department as part of the investigation.

Koberger has pleaded not guilty to all four murders and will return to court in Moscow on June 26 for a preliminary hearing.
