Maxwell, 35, had been out with fellow Australian, and West Indian, cricketers to watch former star Brett Lee's band on January 19.

According to the Mail, during that night the former Hampshire, Surrey, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Warwickshire star had to be taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital by ambulance.

Aussie international Maxwell did not have to stay in hospital overnight.

And he has since returned to training, with Australia set to take on the West Indies in a T20 series.

Maxwell will not play in the ODI against the West Indies beginning on February 2, having been replaced by Jake Fraser-McGurk.

It's claimed that he has merely been rested, and that the decision to leave him out is not related to his recent hospitalisation.

It is not yet clear why Maxwell had to be taken to hospital

Cricket Australia have been contacted for comment.

Maxwell has had to cope with numerous injuries in recent years.

In 2022 he suffered a fractured left fibula after falling over at a 50th birthday party in Melbourne.

He then suffered a forearm injury early last year, before enduring a concession after falling off a golf cart last October.

The injury caused him to miss Australia's World Cup match against England in India.
