Rachel looked impressive in the latest instalment of Countdown, where she wore a fiery red and black mini dress that complimented her toned legs with a full face of glam.

As the show began, Colin announced: “It’s the Friday before a really important weekend, and Rachel, it involves tweeting, but there’s no social media to be found anywhere because this weekend is the RSPB’s Garden birdwatch.

Rachel replied, “Awwr lovely”, as the host continued saying, “Do you know much about this”.

The mathematician responded: “I know you're supposed to take a certain amount of time and count, it's kind of like a national survey, isn’t it, to see what is where.”

Colin confirmed this and explained: “It’s exactly that simple, and it started way back in the late ’70s, and it’s grown and grown and grown, and there is now just under a million people every year take part in the UK. It’s exactly that.”

He continued: “For one hour over the weekend, you count the birds in your area, and they’ve been able to create then over the decades this picture of our population.

“Sadly, over the last half of the century, we’ve lost about 38 million birds from our skies here, so to keep an eye on it and see where it thriving and where it's struggling is really really important and a beautiful thing to do.”

Rachel then interrupted and teased, “It sounds like it's thriving in your garden. Is it Roberta?” to which Colin replied, "Roberta and Roberta two”.

He added: “I mean, if you feed them, they’re there all the time, but I’ve now got a whole load of songbirds because I’ve got more feeding stations, so they come as well.

“I’ve got a few pheasants who pop by. Beautiful creatures, and I try not to chase the pigeons away, because i like the pigeons as well. I feed them all.”

This year's Big Garden Birdwatch runs from January 26 till the 28, and according to the RSPB’s site, nearly 40000 people have already signed up.

The 46-year-old then wrapped up his talk and started the game by introducing players.

Recently, a former Countdown contestant opened up about their experience on the show, saying it was not what it seemed to be on TV.

The previous contestant admitted: "[It's] much more relaxing than being in the studio, faced with cameras and feeling the pressure of the clock booming in each round (it's not edited in, it plays whilst you're there which caught me off guard a little when I was on).

"With that in mind, it's easy to make mistakes, but submitting words such as 'STROL' and 'SCON' is quite something."

Viewers at home usually get involved with the Channel 4 quiz show from the comfort of their sofas.
