A fan said: "Aw I loved your mum on gogglebox you two were brilliant together, so v sorry to hear this sad news." Another added: "So sorry for your loss, loved watching you both on Gogglebox together." Stephen had appeared on Gogglebox for over a decade as he first starred alongside his friend and former partner Chris Steed. Chris later left the show in 2018 amid a reported fallout between the pair, however Stephen decided to carry on.

He was then joined by mum Pat for two series, until his husband Daniel Lustig became a star on the show. The couple announced they would be leaving Gogglebox last year after a decade. A show boss statement read: "After a brilliant and illustrious time on Gogglebox, Stephen and Daniel have decided that now is the right time to explore life beyond the sofa and leave the show.

"As one of the original Goggleboxers, Stephen has entertained the nation with his hilarious quips since the show first started in 2013, sharing his opinions on the best and biggest TV events of the last ten years." Taking to Instagram himself, Gogglebox icon Stephen admitted the "time was right" to "move on".

He told fans: "After careful consideration, Daniel and I have decided we will not be returning for the new series of Gogglebox. We feel the time is right to move on and explore other opportunities.

"We would both like to thank Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for letting us be part of this amazing, funny and heartwarming show. We are also extremely thankful to the cast and crew, or Gogglebox family as we call them and of course the fans, thank you for all of your love and support over the years." Stephen later branched out into other aspects of showbiz.

He was set to appear on the current series of Dancing On Ice, however was forced to quit the show after breaking his ankle in training. In October he told fans: "I’ve had surgery and will be on crutches for a few months meaning, I’ve had to leave the competition which I’m absolutely gutted about. I was having so much fun and enjoying learning to skate. I will of course be keeping a close eye on all of the other celebs and pros and supporting them all the way. Unfortunately, I will also have to pull out of the London Marathon. I’m doing my best to keep my spirits up and will hopefully be back on my feet again very soon."
