Burger King this week released the latest variation of its most-popular burger on the menu—the Whopper—adding a sweet twist to the coveted sandwich.
As of today, BK enthusiasts are welcomed to try the brand-new Candied Bacon Whopper at participating stores across the country. Adding bacon to a burger should seem obvious, but making it candied changes the game and allows the restaurant to experiment with new spices and flavors.
Popular food influencer Markie Devo endorsed the new burger on Instagram, reporting the trendy sandwich contains sweet bacon jam, lettuce, tomato, crispy onions, garlic aioli, candied bacon, and a Whopper patty on a seeded Whopper bun.

Additionally, BK goers will be treated to another new menu item, which will bring forth a new take on the restaurant's fish sandwich. "At select locations, there’s also a new Fiery Big Fish sandwich, which features the same build as the regular fish sandwich just with a creamy spicy sauce," Devo shared.

The company has a history of utilising its fast-food chain experience internationally to fuel US growth. Its CEO, Josh Kobza, corroborated this in a call during the company's third-quarter earnings conference.
"On menu innovation, we have a number of distinctive platforms like plant-based, gourmet and indulgent LTOs that are a key driver for brand consideration. We take a localised approach to menu development like our Masters du Chef Burger in France, always anchored by our distinctive differentiator of flame grilling," he said.
Kobza then explained that ideas such as that are being testes globally and subsequently woven in to the burger restaurant's home market.
"We're also taking a number of our key international learnings and bringing them to Burger King's home market through our Reclaim the Flame plan. So shifting to Burger King in the US. In early October, we hosted our franchisees here across the US and Canada at our annual convention. There was clear optimism in the room as we work with our franchisees and their team members to Reclaim The Flame," he added.
About three weeks before the release of the new burger, Reddit user Wanna_Make_Cash, who seemingly works at a BK restaurant, created a forum to rant about his gripes with prepping procedures at his local store. The apparent BK worker speculated the Candied Whopper would be "extremely annoying" to prep, saying the new bacon jam will need it's own container and seasoning separate from the regular seasoning.
"And now we need more bacon pans and another plastic container for another onion type," Wanna_Make-Cash wrote. "And the store already barely has enough plastic containers as it is because they keep breaking or going missing."
The intention of Cash's post is unclear, but it seemed to entice other users who said the new burger sounded delicious.
