Dietmar Hamann has claimed that Thomas Tuchel was a "disgrace" for talking up a switch to Spain just hours after Xavi announced he would be leaving Barcelona

The legendary Spaniard confirmed he would step down from his post at the end of the season meaning those at the Nou Camp are seeking a new boss. Despite the club's struggles in recent years, the Barcelona hotseat remains a hugely attractive role with Tuchel highlighting his desire to work outside Germany once again.

Tuchel is currently in charge at Bayern Munich, approaching a year in the role, but has previously been in charge at PSG and Chelsea. The German has never been shy to speak his mind and spoke highly about his experience working with Spanish players.

He said at an event: "Moving abroad would appeal to me again. Spain has an extraordinary league. From my perspective, and based on my experience working with Spaniards, they are characterised by a tremendous amount of self-confidence. When you speak with Spanish players, I quickly get the sense that you are engaging with the person."

His comments come with Bayern sat second in the Bundesliga, attempting to chase down Bayer Leverkusen. The Bavarians have certainly not been consistently at their best and the hierarchy at the Allianz Arena are unlikely to take kindly to Tuchel flirting with a future position.

Hamann told Sky Germany: "He sits down and talks about Xavi, about the successor and that he would like to train in Barcelona or Spain. That's a disgrace! He (Tuchel) is a very intelligent man, something like that doesn't just slip out of his mouth.

"Only he has to know one thing: If you are an employee of Bayern, taking on the management - that is rarely a good idea. When I look at the last three home games, it's subpar by Bayern Munich's standards. Against three teams that are at the bottom, that's simply not enough."

Tuchel was backed in the summer with Bayern managing to land Harry Kane, but there are signs that all is not well. Some of the club's stalwarts, who've been crucial to their recent success, are now being linked with exits as their contracts wind down, Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies among them.

Tuchel only spent two seasons at Borussia Dortmund, lasting slightly longer at PSG before his exit. At Chelsea he was only employed for a little over 18 months.
