Calvin Harris is nominated for three BRIT awards – but one category has left him with a major complaint.
The Scottish producer, DJ and songwriter has countless awards under his belt and number one singles coming out of his ears - but one awards category didn't go down too well with him. Calvin, whose real name is Adam Wiles, is going up against the likes of Dua Lipa, Fred Again... and Barry Can't Swim this year.
But while most artists would be ecstatic after receiving several awards, there's only one category that Calvin wants to win and one category which has annoyed him. This year, the DJ who is married to Vick Hope, is nominated for Song of the Year, Best Pop Act and Best Dance Act.
During an interview on Capital FM Breakfast with Roman Kemp, Sian Welby and Chris Stark, Calvin, 40, shared his true feelings. "You've got three nominations there," said Roman, who is also hosting the BRITs this year. He added: "You've been pretty quiet about it on your socials. Best Dance Act, Best Pop Act, er, Song of the Year."
Calvin then interrupted, saying: "What am I doing in Best Pop? Can I just ask that? What am I doing in Best Pop?" "Are you joking?!" exclaimed Roman, before saying: "Calvin, you can't ask that, it's popular music, you create very popular music." Calvin replied: "I don't know about that, nah, I shouldn't be there."
Coachella 2023 - Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean and Idris Elba confirmed to performWhen probed on what award he wants to go home with, he stated: "I'd love Best Dance, absolutely, it would make up for all the other years when they never had it as an option, for about ten years it wasn't an option." It was recently confirmed that Calvin will be taking to the stage on March 2, alongside Ellie Goulding to perform their smash hit, Miracle.
Other acts performing on the night include Kylie Minogue, Dua Lipa, Raye, Becky Hill and Chase & Status. Speaking about their performance, Calvin said: "Can't wait for a VERY SPECIAL performance with Ellie!" The pair are no strangers when it comes to working with one another. They previously teamed up for the 2012 dance anthem, I Need Your Love, and then again in 2014 for Outside.
But fans might need to worry as Calvin has hinted that he will be quitting DJ'ing within the next ten years. Speaking to MistaJam on Capital Dance, the music giant said: "I always said that once I get past 50, I can't see me DJing, I'd prefer to be in the studio making tunes. The more commercial end [of DJing], it can get a little bit... suspect."
He's also eying up working with other artists more, adding: "I think that's where the majority of my talent lies, making something sound good. So I would like to make other people’s records sound good." Calvin famously plays across the world each summer at locations such as Ibiza and Las Vegas.
