A United Airlines flight from London to Newark, United States has been diverted to Maine after "phyiscally abusive behaviour" on board.

The United Airlines Boeing 767 from London to New York declared an emergency due to an unruly passenger, flight radar has shown. According to, Planespotters.net, flight UA883 departed London Heathrow at 08:18 local time this morning and made the cross over the Atlantic to New York.

Upon reaching the Bangor area in Maine, the aircraft declared an emergency and made a rapid descent. Not long after, the crew touched down safely into Bangor, after broadcasting the 7700 squawk code.

United Airlines spokesperson told the Mirror: "United flight 883 landed in Bangor this morning after two passengers, who appeared intoxicated, became disruptive. Law enforcement officials removed the two passengers and the flight has already re-departed for Newark Liberty International Airport.
