Apple has reportedly given up on its secret electric car project with thousands of staff reassigned to work on artificial intelligence instead, according to reports.
The tech giant has never officially talked about the the project, but rumours have been floating around for ten years, with about 2,000 people said to be involved. Bloomberg reports that the project has now been dropped, with staff being moved to work on artificial intelligence (AI), expected to be a big thing in tech in the years ahead.
Apple is reported to have spent billions of dollars on the plans, which was apparently called Project Titan. Apple hasnt commented on the reports. The tech giant has been trying to expand its portfolio of products in recent months, most recently launching its "spatial computing" headset, Vision Pro, in the USA earlier this month.
Electric vehicle sales have slowed down lately because they're still expensive, and the economy's in slowdown. Even Tesla, one of the biggest electric car companies in the world, said earlier this year that sales probably wont be as good as they were in 2022. When reports came out about Apple abandoning the electric car project, Tesla boss Elon Musk saluted and posted a cigarette emoji on social media platform X.
