Matt Smith has revealed his dream is to buy Blackburn Rovers.

The Dr Who, The Crown and House of the Dragon star has supported the Championship side since childhood. And the 41 year old - who dreamt of being a professional footballer before turning to acting - has told how he would like to follow in fellow Hollywood icon Ryan Reynolds' footsteps at Wrexham and become owner of the team.

"I dream about it on a daily basis," he told the Headliners podcast. "Honestly, if I could buy Blackburn Rovers and I had the money, I know it's squandering it, I would do it in a heartbeat."

Smith's father David is from Blackburn and even though he didn't grow up in Lancashire his son has been a fan of the Blue and Whites since he was a boy.

Premier League champions in 1995 - with a team managed by Kenny Dalglish and featuring Alan Shearer - they are currently lying 17th in the second tier table. Smith said he would love to restore the side to its former glory.

"We've got a great history and it's a great club and I'm very proud to be a Blackburn fan," he said. "I get down to the away games, Millwall, QPR, all the London games I try and stick my head in there.

"Maybe it's all leading to that [owning the club]. It's crossed my mind. But it is a hiding to nothing. I'd love it, it's a dream. It's a very interesting question how much you can buy Rovers for?"

Venturing that it might cost £20 million, Smith said he would be happy to club together with fellow actors to buy the club. "I would [club together]. I would love to the see that club restored. I reckon you could get Blackburn for £20 [million]?"

However, he said he wasn't sure A listers would be willing to chip in. "[Ryan Reynolds has] got a billion quid in the bank, that's how he's managed to do it [with Wrexham]," he said. "I'm not sure [Tom] Cruise is looking to invest in the North."
