The son of a woman described as a "bubbly and lovely" mother found dead in her own home has denied murdering her.
The body of Lorraine Cullen was found inside her house in Huyton almost two years ago on May 11, 2022. Her son, Alan Williams, aged 21 at the time, was seized the same day and has been charged with murdering the 43-year-old.
Williams appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today via video link from the Ashworth Hospital where he was detained under the Mental Health Act. He has pleaded not guilty to her murder.
His trial has been set for five days from July 22. Judge David Aubrey KC remanded him into custody ahead of an additional pre-trial hearing on May 31.
After the killing, Merseyside Police confirmed that her cause of death was from one of a number of stab wounds.
Elle Edwards' sister pays tribute to 'kindest person ever' who 'had many dreams'Family friend Paula McNally previously told the LiverpoolECHO shortly after Ms Cullen died: "She was my friend and her daughter is friends with my son.
"We've all known her for quite some time. She was just the life and soul of the party. She was bubbly, so positive and just chatty. She was just never a negative person."
One woman who lived near the scene added: "It was just after all the kids were going to school. The police came and there were a few people gathered outside.
"I didn't know her well, but she was a lovely person. I would go over when the little one was playing in the garden and speak to her, she was playing outside on the trampoline last night."
Another neighbour said: "She was a lovely looking girl. It is devastating, absolutely devastating. She was bubbly. I didn't know her well, but she was lovely."
