Mesut Ozil has undergone a remarkable body transformation to leave football fans amazed at his new bulging muscles.
The former midfielder retired last year, having enjoyed spells at Real Madrid, Arsenal and Fenerbache during his playing career. He won La Liga and the Copa del Rey with Los Blancos and had a stunning run of four FA Cup wins with the Gunners.
Ozil was also part of the Germany squad which won the 2014 World Cup before he retired from international football four years later. Since he hung up his boots for the final time, Ozil has clearly been filling his time by going to the gym.
A new video has emerged of the former Arsenal star in a gym going through a workout. The German was wearing a cap and a weighted body vest as he lifted two 50-kilogram dumbbells while doing a shoulder workout.
In the video, Ozil looks much bigger than when he was a player, with bulging muscles on his arms and shoulders. That transformation from his playing days has left fans stunned.
Premier League odds and betting tipsOne said: "Is he about to join the WWE?", while another added: "Bro about to join UFC." A third joked: "He has become a tank," while a fourth concluded: "Wow, is this for real?"
Ozil has certainly been catching the eye with his workouts, even leaving former team-mates impressed. Cristiano Ronaldo replied to one of his recent videos by writing "Bro, not bad", while German international Antonio Rudiger described him as a "beast".
Though he retired at the end of last season, Ozil will return to the pitch this summer to take part in the Over-35s World Cup in England. He last played in England in 2020 before a falling out with Mikel Arteta led to a move to Turkey.
The midfielder was omitted from Arsenal's squads in the Premier League and Europa League as he was exiled in his final six months at the Emirates. Before his exit, Arteta took full responsibility for Ozil's struggles.
"Honestly I take full responsibility. I have to be the one getting the best out of the players. It is my responsibility. It is nothing related to any behaviour. It's my decision, if someone has to blame me," he said.
"I have to make the decision to get the best possible squad out there to win football matches and competitions as often as we can. In order to do that I try to be fair with him or with any of the players in the squad and defend as much as possible the interests of the club.
"Everybody is free to express his feelings. What I can say from my side is that it is just a football decision. My conscience is very calm because I have been really fair with him. My level of communication with him has been really high and we know what to expect with each other."
