It's another reason why the newest Meta Quest 3 is worth buying

Gamers with an original Quest headset are being warned of a potential cut-off this April, as support for the first Oculus Quest VR could end in just a few weeks. The change could see users unable to update or download apps leading to a pricey upgrade unless you spot Argos' cheapest offer on the newest Meta Quest 3.

According to experts at TechRadar and Forbes who got a glimpse of the update sent out via email to developers, they have until April 30 to roll out any 'app updates for the Quest 1 to the Meta Quest Store'. This means that newly released apps could be denied on Quest 1 headsets.

As Tech Radar outlined the potential block, they said: "If an app is available on other Quest devices, the update can roll out to those headsets, but the Quest 1 support will be denied. New apps that come out after April 30 are not going to appear on the online store nor will owners even be allowed to buy them."

So, what will happen to your Oculus Quest set? As Forbes and Tech Radar outlined, if the changes go ahead you'll have to upgrade to the swankier Quest 2 or Quest 3. If you've been eyeing up a piece of virtual reality then the most up-to-date Meta Quest 3 will be the one worth going for.

If you want to pay the cheapest price, go for Argos or Amazon. Shopping at either of the stores, Amazon or Argos, will get you the headset cheaper than Meta's own site.

£20 cheaper to be exact but out of sale season it's pretty hard to come by a cheaper headset, at Argos you'll spend £459.99 for the 128GB all-in-one Meta Quest 3, while Amazon trumps it by offering the same price with a free game - Asgard's Wrath 2 thrown in for £0. The slightly older Meta Quest 2 is cheaper and more affordable option for budding gamers, now available for £199.99 at Argos.

Why buy the Meta Quest 3 headset?

The Meta Quest 3 is the best option, as we speak, for software support and updates, plus it's home to all of the newest VR games and spaces. I recently took a trip down to Meta HQ to try out its newest Headspace XR and the Quest 3 headset now offers much more than gaming.

You can read the full review of the new Headspace XR here, but here's a quick glimpse at my thoughts: "A virtual reality therapy room’ were my thoughts after I lifted off the headset and undid the controllers from my wrists. A novice to immersive gaming (as you may be able to tell) I wasn’t expecting the Headspace XR to feel as real as it did.

"And after an hour spent fully immersed I couldn’t help but feel more relaxed stepping back into the launch room, after all, it is all about mindfulness and meditation. And like any good VR headset, you do want to feel as though on-screen is your true surroundings."
