Weddings can sometimes bring out the worst in people, whether it’s the stress, the anticipation, or both, it can cause those involved to lose sight of things. One woman has revealed how she witnessed her friend go from normal bridesmaid to “crazy” maid-of-honour so quickly it gave her “whiplash”.

Sharing the encounter on social media, the woman explained that in the build-up to her friend getting married, she witnessed some truly bizarre behaviour from the maid-of-honour. With four women in the bridal party to support the bride, things appeared to have been going well but all that changed at the last wedding dress appointment.

She said: “While the bride was talking to the dress consultant, the maid-of-honour walked up to us and started the conversation with, ‘Well I was supposed to get married first, but here we are’. And gave us our bridesmaid ball caps. She told us that she may have to ‘put her foot down as maid-of-honour’ to keep us on track. The bride's sister and I had some serious side eye, but let it go for the moment.

“The bride had an initial vision for her dress, but what she was trying on didn't look like she thought it would, and wasn't loving the style. When she came out in the dress, it was pure magic. You could just tell she was absolutely in love with it. The bride was beautiful and she shed some tears in a moment with her mum and sister. However, over in my corner, there was deep-set irritation and the absolute need to not cause a scene.”

The woman explained that the maid-of-honour was freaking out and felt very unhappy. According to her, the bride had found her dress too quickly and it wasn’t in the plan. She added that she felt she wanted more time “playing dress up”.

She revealed that after finding ‘the dress’ they went to lunch to celebrate but the maid-of-honour “pouted” all the way through and made snide remarks. During this lunch, they began planning the hen party with the bride saying she wanted to go to a city for a bar crawl.

While discussing plans, the maid-of-honour decided that the mother of the bride needed to come to the hen do, which didn’t make much sense and was something that the bride didn’t want. Understandably, she wanted to let her hair down and get drunk without her mother there to supervise. However, after seeing how excited her mum was she couldn’t then say no.

The woman proceeded to list all the ways the maid-of-honour tried to spread discord in the group, by booking a hotel in a dodgy part of the city and insisting on travelling by bus even when she knew they would be intoxicated and hadn’t been there before.

After finally getting everything booked up and needing the funds from everyone, the woman explained that the maid-of-honour dragged her feet, which resulted in them losing out on several nice hotels and annoying the bride. But it was when the bride got her engagement photos back that she really started to lose her temper with the maid-of-honour.

The woman added: “They are pretty great and really capture the couple's personality. Per the bride, the first words out of the MOH's mouth were, ‘Oh wow, do you want me to edit out his bald spot?’ acting surprised the photographer didn't just do it and ignore that the groom was comfortable with his own head.

“It was now that we told the bride about the ‘getting married first’ comment during dress shopping as we hadn't wanted to create more drama for her. The bride was over it at this point and was hoping MOH would pull out on her own, but she wasn't yet willing to blow up their 12-year friendship.”

Things seemed to cool down after the hen party and thankfully the wedding went off without a hitch but their friendship has never quite been the same again.

The woman finished: “The maid–of-honour never apologized and the closest she came was after she herself got engaged. She told the bride, ‘Now I understand the stress you were going through’. Referring to the wedding planning and nothing else. In all the weddings I have been involved with; I have never seen someone so jealous that they had to try to plan their own wedding instead of be happy for their alleged best friend. It gave me whiplash.”
