A bodybuilder who showed off his demanding fitness routines to more than 50,000 followers on Instagram has been shot dead outside his home.

Denis Yoshio, who was dating a model, was gunned down by two men who fled on a motorbike. The 32-year-old man’s brother put him into his car and tried to rush him to hospital before being assisted by firefighters on-route who helped transfer him to an ambulance.

The gunshot victim is said to have gone into cardiac arrest after reaching Tatuape Municipal Hospital in São Paulo, Brazil, where he died. One of the bullets that killed him struck his spine. Police investigating Denis’ brutal assassination on Saturday night in Vila Matilde, one of the 96 districts in Brazilian city São Paulo, are yet to make any arrests.

A witness told police he had dropped the fitness influencer off at his home so he could pick up money because his car had broken down. He was shot as he got out of the vehicle and headed towards the property.

As well as working out regularly, Denis was also an economist. In a recent video he uploaded on social media, he showed off some of his punishing workouts to his 50,500 Instagram followers using the motto: “You can do everything except give up.” He added after posting selfies showing off his incredible physique: “Only those who pursue their goals are capable of achieving success.” One admirer responded by saying: “What a monster!” Another added: “You’re in great shape bro. Thanks for motivating me.”

Denis’ stunning girlfriend, known only as Amanda, revealed her heartbreak in posts to her 18,600 followers on Instagram where she regularly shows off her shapely curves to her fans. She said in gut-wrenching messages where she posted videos and photos of her and Denis together: “I can’t think, I can’t understand. I’m nothing without you. Please come home my love. You gave my life meaning. I can’t be far from you. I can’t exist without you. I need to be with you. God help me please. Tell me this is one your practical jokes please. Don’t leave me here alone.”

In a subsequent Instagram Stories post she wrote under a photo of her partner: “It’s with extreme sadness that we inform you of the death of Denis Yoshio. As soon as we have information about his funeral we will let you know."
