CHANNEL 4 were left in tears as over Prue Leith's documentary that she made on assisted dying.

The Great British Bake Off Star made a new TV programme, Prue and Danny's Death Road Trip, with her son, Conservative MP, Danny Kruger.

Prue, 82, was advocating the introduction of a bill to enable assisted dying for those who have terminal illnesses or mentally ill after her own brother "died the most horrible death".

The pair embarked on a road trip to places where assisted suicide was legal such as Canada to hear from experts and a wide range of guests.

Her son admitted at the end of the programme that he would not be supporting the bill when it went to parliament.

The Channel 4 audience were split over the emotive documentary and they took to social media in droves.

One viewer with a terminal illness took to social media with a video of her crying and in pain.

She captioned the clip: "This is my life sentence. I’ll delete it because I’m vain. But we need an Assisted Dying law now. Listen to Prue Leith. Or not. I’m with her."

Another said: "Only 15 mins in and it’s already a tough watch. Way too close to home for comfort."

A third commented: "Support you all the way I watched my mum die in agony I live with the memory of her begging me to help."

Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: "Who could fail to be moved by the clarity, dignity and love for their partners/families demonstrated by those in the programme."

A fifth noted: "I speak from personal experience I watched my Dad at aged 54, even though he had the best care, the disease took his dignity," alongside a crying emoji.

A sixth wrote to the Bake Off Judge: "Thank you for this; a topic so close to my heart."

"A seventh viewer commented: "Watching Prue Leith's documentary on 'assisted dying' brings up many emotive points."

An eighth watcher reflected on their own experiences: "As someone who lives with an incurable, very painful and debilitating neurological condition, I wish I had a choice."

But some viewers also partially agreed with the arguments of her son.

One viewer said: "Daniel makes a good point that end of life care should be much improved too."

A second wrote: "I do agree with Prue Leith in all her arguments in this but can also understand her son's worries of it being a slippery slope."

Meanwhile a third noted: "Both sides with valid points."

A fourth said: "I’m watching a debate on assisted dying with @PrueLeith and her son and they’ve come to Canada.

"[The] exacerbating uptake of MAID and reducing support to live is deeply disturbing."
