Harry Kane claimed it was "strange" that he even got booked for his elbow on Arsenal defender Gabriel.

Former top-flight referee Keith Hackett claimed it was a "nailed on" red card because Kane knew what he was doing during the flashpoint.‌ It left Gabriel in pain and needing treatment but Kane only got a yellow card and referee Glenn Nyberg gave a foul against the England captain.‌

Kane said: "It was strange, I'm not really sure, it was 50-50, he gave that one as a foul and I'm surprised it was a yellow card but it is what it is. Decisions sometimes go your way."

‌Bayern Munich striker Kane thought it was a far bigger mistake when referee Nyberg failed to give a penalty against Gabriel for picking the ball up in his own penalty box after the whistle had been blown to restart play.

But Kane did sympathise with Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, his England team-mate, who went down late on under Manuel Neuer's challenge.

‌Kane added: "They had a decision at the end, which sometimes goes your way but we also had a clear penalty which would have been really strange when the keeper passed it to Gabriel and he picked the ball up in his box.

"It was a stonewall penalty and I don't know why the ref didn't give it. It would have been strange. But the ref blew the whistle, he passed it, he picked it up, it would have been childlike but that's not our problem. The rules are the rules and maybe they should have had one, we should have had one, and it's 2-2 and level for next week."

Bayern now start as favourites to reach the semi-final as the six-time winners are on level terms and have never gone out to Arsenal in the knock-out stages.

And Kane has promised to finish the job and knock Arsenal out of the Champions League. The England captain kept up his incredible scoring record against the Gunners in the first leg and says the red-hot atmosphere in Munich can blow Arsenal away next week.

Bayern's fans were banned from the Emirates for letting off fireworks in two previous rounds but Kane says it will be a very different story next week.

Kane, who has scored 15 goals in 20 games against Arsenal, said: "From our point of view, we have to go to the Allianz with a full crowd and it's going to be an amazing atmosphere and the aim is to get to the semi-final.

"It was hard with no fans, strange to have no one there for us but I thought we dealt with it well and I think you'll see them even more excited next week having not been to this game. Maybe they will be even louder than they usually are. Hopefully, we can use that energy to our advantage and really try to put the pressure on.

"Arsenal are a really good team so it's a game where it's all to play for next week at home, in front of our fans and we can come away maybe slightly happier than them but it’s still all to play for next week."

Kane ran the gauntlet of the Arsenal fans as he celebrated in front of the Emirates - it was his fifth penalty at their home ground - and claimed they even have a grudging respect for him as the ex-Tottenham striker insisted he loves the rivalry.

He added: "I think they have a soft respect for me, the Arsenal fans. I love the game. I was a fan when I was younger so I know how it goes and, for me, I just try to perform.

"For some reason, I get a lot of penalties here at the Emirates and I've been happy I've been able to put them away and it will be nice to be at home next and in front of the Munich fans."
