Elizabeth Chambers admitted her “painful” divorce from ex-husband Armie Hammer was “absolute hell”.

The couple - who are parents to daughter Harper, 9, and son Ford, 7 - first met in 2017 and wed in 2010, but announced they had parted ways after 10 years of marriage in July 2020. “Thirteen years as best friends, soulmates, partners and then parents. It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage,” the joint statement read.

However, just a few months later, The Social Network star was hit with a barrage of allegations, including sexual violence, BDSM and cannibalism, and the backlash was so severe he was forced to step down from his role in Shotgun Wedding opposite Jennifer Lopez, slamming the reports as “bulls**t claims”. He vehemently denied the accusations from the women, but his estranged wife Elizabeth issued a statement in support of the alleged victims, and revealed she was “shocked, heartbroken, and devastated.”

The Food Network host has kept relatively quiet on her split from Armie, but during a new docu-series called Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, she broke her silence on her high-profile split from The Lone Ranger actor. Discussing the so-called Cayman Curse, which sees couples break-up after arriving on the island, Elizabeth said it was devastating to go through a relationship breaking down while in the spotlight, and the couple’s divorce was only finalised in June last year.

“I went through a very public divorce. It was riddled with scandal, and stories were coming out each day, horrific articles, and I was learning about them as it happened. The life that we had planned for years basically shattered,” she sadly shared. “That was a really painful period of time. Doing that on a more public platform, it was absolute hell, and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.”

Elizabeth revealed she was ready for a “fresh start” after the “trauma” of her divorce from Armie, and refused to speak about the controversial interview her ex-husband gave to Air Mail about the abuse allegations last year. “I lived it. I know it. I know the truth. So, at the end of the day, unless you were there, you don’t know,” she firmly stated.

During the eye-opening interview, Armie claimed he was sexually abused as a child by a local pastor, and said he was ready to “take accountability for the fact that I was an a*shole, that I was selfish, that I used people to make me feel better, and when I was done, moved on.” The Call Me By Your Name star said he was now a healthier, happier, more balanced person,” and was “grateful” for his life and his subsequent recovery.
