Nothing quite compares to a Chinese takeaway at the weekend, but one foodie has shared a simple airfryer recipe for crispy chilli beef that tastes "just as good, if not better" than the real thing.
The shredded strips of tangy deliciousness are often dished up alongside a generous serving of egg fried rice and vegetables - making it a popular option for many Brits. Fortunately, online chef Kimberly Hambleton has revealed her recipe for the moreish dish, which costs just a fraction of the price.
Taking to TikTok, under the undername @kimberlys_journey, the expert said: "If you like the crispy chilli beef from the Chinese takeaway, then you’ll definitely want to try this version. It’s my version to make it at home, it’s a little bit healthier, it’s a bit cheaper, and it’s actually just as good, if not better I’d say."
Kimberly confessed: "Sometimes I can find it a bit hit or miss from an actual Chinese takeaway, but this one was so good." She then talked through the steps for making this mouth watering meal, which can be found below.
Ingredients
- Beef stir fry strips
- Soy sauce
- Three eggs
- Cornflour
- Spray oil
- Ketchup
- Sweet chilli sauce
- Honey
- Garlic
- Peppers
- Onions
- Peas
- Cooked rice
- Sesame oil
- MSG powder (optional)
Method
To start making this fakeaway, mix the beef strips in a bowl with a few drizzles of soy sauce and one egg. Then, fully coat the seasoned beef strips in cornflour and place in the airfryer basket.

Spray the beef with oil, and cook in the airfryer for 13-minutes on 190°C. Whilst the meat is cooking, prepare the sauce by mixing together some soy sauce, ketchup, sweet chilli sauce, honey, and one tsp of garlic. Set this to one side.
In a saucepan, fry the peppers and onion, before adding the sauce. Then add the cooked beef into the saucepan and give the contents a generous mix. Kimberly explained that the meat should be "really crispy" at this point.
To make the "easy" egg fried rice, fry one onion, peas, and two eggs. Then add the cooked rice, drizzle of sesame oil, soy sauce and MSG powder.
The viral video has amassed more than 25K likes, and followers flocked to the comments section to share their response. One user gushed: "Looks better than a Chinese," while a second penned: "This is incredible."
Another asked: "Oh that looks lovely, could I change to chicken?" To which Kimberly responded with: "100%, I’ve done it with chicken before and it’s so good."
