Punters are making their final selections for the 176th running of the Randox Grand National at Aintree.

Last year's winner Corach Rambler is sure to to be popular, as he bids to emulate 2018 and 2019 hero Tiger Roll by doing the double. The exclusive club of multiple scorers has seven members, including its most famous horse Red Rum, who took three renewals in the seventies. Today's renewal, cut to 34 runners after a review, is down to 32 after Chambard and Run Wild Fred were pulled out of the race this morning.

It slims the challenge from Tiger Roll's trainer Gordon Elliott down to seven for the 30-fence event over four and a quarter miles – and just 12 favourites have been successful in 100 years.

A spokesperson for William Hill said two thoroughbreds at the top of the market are proving popular.

Spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “Whether it’s a result of Mark Walsh choosing her or Gavin Cromwell’s form, punters are really getting stuck into Limerick Lace in the Grand National. She’s 9-1 from 10-1 as the money continues to pour in and there’s now a realistic chance of her going off favourite.

“I Am Maximus is another who’s been well-backed in recent days and he’s the current 7-1 favourite, but it’s very hard to know who is going to start favourite with such a good spread of business. At bigger prices, another J P McManus-owned horse in Capodanno has been popular and is now 25-1 from 40-1.”

Corach Rambler

Third in the Gold Cup to Galopin Des Champs, Rough Quest was the last horse to place there and go on to 1996 Grand National glory. Has a record of 31111 in March or April, which includes his smooth-travelling success over Vanillier 12 months ago. A strong stayer, he is 13lb higher in the weights now, which some say is a concern – but trainer Lucinda Russell could not be happier. He’s a bit harder and fitter this time around,” the William Hill ambassador reported. “He’s in the form of his life. He’s a bit like a prize fighter and I couldn’t be happier with him."

I Am Maximus

Trained by Willie Mullins, who saddled Hedgehunter to win in 2005. If he can land the £500,000 first prize, it would give him a great chance in the UK trainers' championship, based on prize money won. Successful in an Irish National, I Am Maximus is all about stamina and looks well-handicapped on his form this year. Does jump to the left so will have to find a rhythm early for jockey Paul Townend.

Mr Incredible

Bookmakers have noticed a late market move for the quirky eight-year-old, who was going well in 2023 when his saddle slipped at the Canal Turn. Willie Mullins has given him one outing since, when he was a creditable second in the Midlands National. Will stay every yard of the trip if he consents to race from a standing start and is now 10-1 with William Hill, an hour before the runners get under starter's orders.
