An angry Mauricio Pochettino warned his Chelsea players that he will not allow them to "behave in this way" again after another penalty farce during their 6-0 win over Everton.

The Blues were 4-0 up at Stamford Bridge when they were given a spot-kick just before the hour mark. Regular penalty taker Cole Palmer, who had already scored a hat-trick, was on the floor after being brought down and a debate between his team-mates occurred.

Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson both wanted to take the penalty and got into a fiery debate before Palmer emerged to his feet, walked over and took the ball. The altercation continued and captain Conor Gallagher told both Madueke and Jackson to let Palmer - who boasts a 100 per cent record from 12 yards - take it.

Palmer was reliable from the spot once again, sending Jordan Pickford the wrong way to add his fourth and Chelsea's fifth of the evening. Despite it being such a huge and impressive victory for the Blues, Pochettino sent a damning message to his players after the angry confrontation.

He told Sky Sports: "It is a shame. I was telling the players when we arrived from the pitch. We had a meeting with all the staff also and we explained and were talking. For me it is a shame because we cannot behave in this way and I can only apologise.

"I told them that this is the last time that I accept this type of behaviour. Next time those involved in a situation like this are all out. This is not a joke.

"It’s impossible after a performance like this to have this type of behaviour that shows that we are in a process and we will learn a lot. We are a great team fighting for big things. We need to change and think more in a collective way.

"It’s so clear and I made clear to them and through you, to the fans and to everyone that Cole Palmer is the taker, and then if Palmer wants to give it to another he can. But not in this way.

“It is a sad situation that happened and we have all agreed it cannot happen again."

Palmer, who has now scored 25 goals this season, also gave his verdict on the incident. He said: "Other players wanted to take it. The game was 4-0, but I am the penalty taker and I wanted to take it.

"Maybe the argument was a bit over the top, but everyone wants to win and help. Afterwards, we were laughing and joking about it, but the manager has spoken to us about it."
