IPHONE owners are being encouraged to disable a setting that can be a massive drain on their device's battery life.

iOS smartphones are total powerhouses thanks to the multitude of apps they come equipped with.

These tools not only better the user experience but can optimize Apple devices when utilized properly.

However, these apps can also deplete your smartphone's battery life faster.

This causes users to charge their phones more often, which can diminish a battery's lifespan.

Thankfully there are a few steps you can take to let your phone stay charged for longer, such as disabling Background App Refresh, users on Reddit shared.

Background App Refresh allows apps to automatically search for new information even if you're not using them.

This can be handy in that whenever you open an app, everything is up-to-date.

However, it can quickly deplete your device's battery life and even reduce its performance.

As such, by turning it off, you can save your iPhone's battery life in the long run.

"I do it to save battery. It’s fine. [The apps] refresh when you open them," one Reddit user shared.

"I disabled it with 16.2 because something is killing my battery. Disabled location services for almost everything too," another remarked.

HOW TO DISABLE BACKGROUND APP REFRESH

You can limit the Background App Refresh process by heading to Settings.

From there, tap on General and then on Background App Refresh.

Tap Background App Refresh and then select Off to turn the feature off completely.

OTHER BATTERY SAVING TIPS

1. Turn off Location Services

Some apps on your iPhone use your location to enhance your experience while using them.

However, Location Services often drain your iPhone’s battery and ultimately shorten its lifespan.

By turning them off, you better secure your privacy and also improve your phone's battery life.

You can see which apps are using your location by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

Once there, you can turn off Location Services entirely, or allow access only while using the app.

2. Keep your iPhone cool

If you're serious about preserving your iPhone battery, which can save you money in the long run, then you need to keep it cool.

A cool iPhone helps to maintain its battery’s lifespan and improve the overall functionality.

For charging, this might look like keeping the iPhone in a well-ventilated place, or maybe even taking it out of its case while it re-energizes.

Additionally, you will want to avoid putting your phone on hot dashboards or under your pillow while sleeping.
