OJ Simpson paid Mafia gangsters to kill his ex-wife Nicole Brown after 'hearing she was sleeping around', claims a key police witness.

He was found not guilty of Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman's death during his infamous murder trial in 1995. But now a witness has sensationally claimed Simpson was behind the killings and that paid "a lot of money... to have [his ex-wife] whacked".

The former NFL star died aged 76 on Wednesday, April 10 after a battle with cancer. It's only now that witness John Dunton believes it's 'safe' to speak out. In a private detective interview recording, he claims Simpson "didn't give a s***" about Nicole and that he found out OJ hired a mob to carry out the double murder from someone "in his circle".

PI Paul Barresi, who supplied the recording, tells DailyMail.com he first approached Dunton 30 years ago, and he's only decided to speak after OJ's death. The 62-year-old claims OJ was at the scene of Nicole and Ron's fatal stabbings, with four gangsters.

Per recordings obtained by the outlet, Dunton says he spoke to cops in LA after the murders, but he went quiet when mobsters found out, reportedly sticking a gun in his mouth, threatening to murder him and his family if he spoke to police or a grand jury.

Speaking to Paul, who's worked for a long list of A-list stars, including Amber Heard and Sharon Stone, Dunton says OJ only cared about "getting his wife out". In a recording, he claims, "He kept hearing from other people that his wife was sleeping around with a lot of guys. He was jealous. He wanted to end everything. OJ owed money to the mob too, but he paid additional to have her whacked. He paid a lot of money, back in those days.

"I don't how much was paid but a lot was paid. It so happened Goldman was there, and he got whacked too," Dunton claims. He's thought to have waited 30 years to speak out, waiting for OJ's passing and the deaths of many of the mob gangsters too.

"I just want to get it off my chest that's all. You know, it's been a long time. You know, the truth should come out one way or another," he explained. It comes after news the notorious white Bronco truck from OJ's 1994 police pursuit is reportedly set for sale.

The car could go under the hammer almost exactly 30 years after OJ led cops on an unforgettable 90-minute chase through the streets of Los Angeles. The 1993 vehicle belonged to his former teammate Al Cowlings and was an exact replica of OJ's. Days after the death of OJ's ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, he held a gun to Al's head from the backseat of the car as they sped from police, later surrendering as Simpson was arrested at his home in Brentwood.

The car is now owned by three people, including Simpson's former agent Michael Gilbert who says the group, made up of two of Al's friends, wouldn't want anything less than £1.2million ($1.5million). "Before OJ passed, we had always thought this was going to be the year we were going to sell because it's the 30th anniversary," Gilbert told Cllct. "Who knows if we are all going to be around for the 35th or the 40th?"
