A cost-cutting consumer has revealed easy way you could cut the price of your broadband and TV bill

A Sky customer has taken to social media to share a genius way to get a much cheaper TV and broadband package. As prices rise in 2024 it's a hack other users can use too as it may see customers cut their bill to a fraction of the usual cost and it's really simple to do.

Yes, as simple as the term 'if you don't ask, you don't get' which is what savvy customer Melisa Bailey found out. As highlighted by BirminghamLive, she got a huge £72 knocked off her streaming bills after calling the provider and finding a loophole that let her downgrade the broadband section of her plan.

Best Sky deal:

Sharing the savvy tip to the Facebook group 'Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK' she said: "I've recently re-done my Sky package as we were going out of contract, downgraded my broadband as the deal had finished." Not only did the change save her money but Melisa said it also made her apps connect a lot faster.

As well as switching up part of her broadband plan, Melisa also took off a popular streaming part of the deal, which made a huge difference to the price. She explained: "I also took the £4 Netflix offer, which includes adverts. This is a £6 difference from the previous package I was on. The adverts run very infrequently, and I'm happy to save the £72 a year."

It's proof that asking to see other options when coming to the end of your contract may end up making you a saving, a trusted tip consumer expert Martin Lewis from the team at MoneySavingExpert has often spoken about. In an MSE post experts say that haggling, like phoning up a provider to talk over options like Melisa did, can be a great cost-cutting method.

On their website, the team at MoneySavingExpert said: "In a nutshell, call up and ask for a better deal. Say you're paying too much and you've seen cheaper deals elsewhere. If that doesn't work, tell them you're leaving. You'll usually get put through to companies' super-powerful hidden deals departments."

The consumer experts do, however, go on to say that time is critical saying that the best time to enquire about switching around your plan is when you're approaching the end of your contract, saying: "If you haven't reached the end of your contract yet, unfortunately it's unlikely you'll be able to negotiate a lower price or leave your deal as you're committed until your minimum term's up."

Nontheless it's a simple tech hack that can be used no matter the provider you're with, whether you want to save money on your Sky TV and broadband package, your O2 phone bill, or BT internet.
