A BABY girl is fighting for her life after being mauled by her family dog at home.

The tot, who is younger than two, was seriously injured when she was attacked by the hound in Cheltenham.

The toddler was raced to hospital before being transferred to another where she today remains in a critical condition.

The horror unfolded on Sunday before 6pm in Hatherley, Gloucestershire.

Cops today confirmed the large dog, which was not a banned breed, had been seized.

Gloucestershire Police said it was probing the attack, and asked anyone with information to get in touch.

The force said: "An infant has sustained serious injuries after she was bitten by a dog inside her home in Cheltenham on Sunday 14 April.

"The child, who is aged under two, is in a critical condition at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

"Officers and paramedics attended the incident which happened at a property in the Hatherley area of the town just before 6pm on Sunday.

"The child was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to be treated for her injuries and later transferred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children where she remains.

"The pet dog, which is a large breed, has been seized by police and is at a secure kennel while investigations continue.

"It has been confirmed that the dog is not a banned breed.

"Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to get in touch with police."

The attack happened just hours after another youngster was mauled by a dog in Partington, Greater Manchester.

A woman, 34, was arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control and child neglect.

She has now been bailed, cops said.

The horror unfolded around 3.40pm on Sunday in the Tafford area.

Manchester Evening News reported the dog was an XL Bully breed, and was seized by cops.
