What are 2024's red noses made out of?

For 2024, there are four fun red noses to collect.

There is also a one in 166 chance to get your hands on a limited edition Rare "Gold" Nose, known as the Golden Hooter.

The 2024 noses are made from 70% sugarcane (Bagasse in the UK) and 30% wood pulp, which is moulded together with trace amounts of a food-safe colour dye.

The dye also contains no plastics either.

The characters are then printed with a UV printer, so there’s also a trace amount of printer ink on the red nose.

All of the material is plant-based, and therefore fully recyclable.

Each red nose also comes with a QR code which people can scan and receive a joke.

Why do we wear red noses?

People wear red noses to show that they are celebrating Red Nose Day.

Money raised goes towards good causes not only in the UK but across the world.

It also helps organisations that are trying to help those who are affected by the Ukraine crisis.

When is Red Nose Day 2024?

Red Nose Day is on Friday, March 15, 2024.

The Comic Relief annual telethon will air on the same day on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer from 7pm.

This live show brings with it an evening of entertainment featuring a host of stars, live music, exclusive prizes, and comedy.

Viewers will also get to pledge money, and see how their cash is spent.

When was the first Red Nose Day?

The first Red Nose Day was on February 8, 1988.

The event and aimed to raise money for famine victims in Ethiopia, and was successful in raising £15 million.

Sir Lenny Henry hosted the first ever Red Nose Day in 1988 and he will be back on stage for 2024.

However, this will be the last time he will be presenting the Comic Relief telethon.

In early 2024, the comedian announced he would be retiring from the live show.

Sir Lenny said he would be stepping down as "it is time for someone else to take the reins".
