Proud dad Olly Murs said he was "emotional" this evening as he returned to stage after becoming a dad for the first time with wife Amelia - admitting it was "horrible" to tear himself away from his new family.
The Heart Skips a Beat singer performed his "first gig as a daddy" just hours after announcing that the couple were new parents to daughter Madison, adding he would "rush home to see the baby" as he left the stage.
He said of an "incredible" few days: “We are over the moon and just full of love. It was so horrible to say goodbye to Maddison this morning and Amelia. But the show must go on. I can't believe I am a dad." He went on to joke to the crowd: "Madison has already got one hell of a voice."
The couple shared a heartwarming photo of them holding hands while walking down the corridor of the hospital holding hands, carrying a car seat with the latest addition to their family. He captioned the picture: “Our mini murs has arrived. Madison we love you so much already x.”
The singer, 39, married bodybuilder Amelia, 31, in a star-studded wedding, featuring a festival called Murs Fest, in July 2023 on Osea Island in Essex, and announced they were expecting their first child last year. But no sooner had he announced their happy news, he was back on stage opening for Take That's This Life tour at Leeds First Direct Arena last night where he is due to take to the stage again on Thursday night.
With little in the way of paternity leave available, Olly previously announced that after the tour he would “step back” from his career, to focus on his family - after his wife and daughter join him at the stadium gigs over the summer. The tour runs throughout the next few months until the end of June, and Olly had joked he would have to borrow Gary Barlow’s private jet to ensure he was back at Amelia’s side as she gave birth.
