A young woman found at a £4million former embassy was due to fly to Thailand, but cancelled the trip at the last moment.

Metropolitan Police officers forced their way into the home near Hyde Park, central London, 12 hours after friends of Kamonnan Thiamphanit raised concerns about her welfare. They found the 27-year-old, also known as Angela, lifeless inside. Residents living near the plush pad near Bayswater, central London, say they heard screams and loud music overnight, before the grisly discovery. Her killer remains at large and may have fled the country.

Now Ms Thiamphanit’s cousin has revealed she was due to be out of the country herself with plans to visit Thailand for the Qingming festival - a Chinese celebration honouring the dead - before she suddenly decided to cancel the trip. She told The Times : “Angela said she was ready to book the ticket, but she could not make it. We are shocked. We talked about the day the whole family would meet in a Chinese cemetery [for] the festival. We did not believe the news when we heard. It happened so suddenly. We spoke only days before she passed.'

It is understood officers believe the house is rented out as an Airbnb-style holiday let and it does not have any permanent residents, having previously served as the site of the Ethiopian diplomatic mission in the . The home is spread across two floors and also has a basement and roof garden. A neighbour said: "We heard a lot of loud music coming from the house and it sounded as if they were having quite a party. I remember discussing it with my family and we said we'd like to speak to the owner but the problem is we don't know who the owner is. There are lots of people coming and going at the property."

Alan Granberg, who lives in a mews home located behind the street, said on the Saturday night before the discovery of the victim three different riders accidentally knocked on his door with food deliveries meant for the house in Stanhope Place. He told : "There was lots of noise and music coming from the house and I told the delivery riders I hadn't ordered any food.”

It was earlier revealed two high-pitched screams were heard by a neighbour before the body was found. The neighbour, who did not give her name, said: “I did hear very, very high-pitched screams on Sunday evening coming from the direction. A series of screams. I recall two – I’m very sensitive to sound. They were very unusual. There was no other sound other than the screams, then silence after. I was in my room and I thought, ‘That’s very strange’. Then I recall there was a sound from the other side of my house. What could I do? If it had continued I would have stuck my head out.”

The Met POlice earlier revealed it “is likely” the killer was known to the victim. Commander Owain Richards, said: “We are supporting her devastated family and friends as best we can as they come to terms with their tragic loss. They are overseas and the process of informing them has taken some time as a result.

“To lose a loved one in these circumstances is unimaginable, and our thoughts are with them. I completely understand the shock and concern this incident has caused, especially to women living and working in the area, and indeed to Londoners as a whole. I understand there is significant speculation about what happened to Kamonnan. While our detectives are keeping an open mind for any motive, I can confirm it is likely her attacker was known to her. I reiterate our appeal for anyone who has information or material which could assist the investigation to make contact with us.”
