Amy Dowden is making the most of her downtime before returning to work.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional has been battling breast cancer and recently vowed to return to the programme after she was forced to take a year out. But in a fresh update, the Welsh beauty has revealed she and her closest friends have escaped their busy lives and are enjoying some downtime with one another.

Amy, 33, was joined by Giovanna Fletcher, Kelsey Parker and Candice Brown as they headed to The Lakes by Yoo and settled in for the weekend. Taking to her stories in view of her 659,000 followers, Amy shared a selfie alongside her famous pals as they all enjoyed their time away from home.

Rocking a cream coat and grey scarf, Amy flashed her pearly whites towards the camera as she posed alongside Giovanna, Kelsey and Candice. Captioning her upload, the dancer chose to use a series of emojis including a heart, leaves and a caterpillar. Another snap saw Amy and Kelsey taking time out from their weekend activities as they lounged about in a dressing gown while gulping what appeared to be rosé wine.

"We're working hard, aren't we Kels? We're gonna go in the hot tub," Amy said before bursting into laughter. The group appeared to be staying in a luxury riverside cottage, complete with its own pool and sprawling gardens surrounding the property. Amy's weekend away comes after the star reflected on her journey just one year after discovering a lump in her breast.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, she looked back on the past year, saying: "I can't believe it's a year since I found the lump. But I'm just so grateful in the year for the treatment I've had, the NHS, and all the charities, everybody that's helped me to be still here today." She continued, sharing details of her ongoing treatment: "I was actually at the oncology unit yesterday, having my monthly injection, which I will need for five years."

Amy expressed her gratitude and shock at her diagnosis: "But I'm just so grateful to get another shot at life. but I never thought in a million years at 32, that I'd be diagnosed with breast cancer." Reflecting on her life before the diagnosis, she said: "I was living my life to the full on Strictly Come Dancing, I'd just got married, but cancer doesn't discriminate."
