TEMPERS frayed as Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr took on rivals Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.

And that led to play being halted after Ronaldo's team-mate was hit on the head with a water bottle.

The incident occurred after Ronaldo thought he had put his side 1-0 ahead.

Bottles rained down on the Al-Nassr team as they celebrated, with one catching Otavio on the head and bursting on impact.

The player immediately collapsed to the floor, and his team-mates pleaded with the crowd to stop launching projectiles.

It was a hostile atmosphere from the start at the King Abdullah Sports City, with fans chanting Messi's name at Ronaldo throughout.

Al-Ahli are one of four teams owned by the Saudi government's Public Investment Fund and have stars littered throughout their side.

Rivalling Ronaldo's Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli boast Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez and Allan Saint-Maximin as part of their roster.

Al-Nassr would go on to win the game 1-0 through a Ronaldo penalty - giving him the last laugh in the end.

After scoring, Ronaldo and co playfully gave a bit back to the Al-Ahli fans.

Ronaldo is the top scorer in the Saudi league, with 23 goals to his name this season.

The goals haven't been enough to fire Al-Nassr to the top of the league, however, as they trail Al-Hilal by nine points.
