We are now more than halfway through April and it won't be long until the UK basks in glorious sunshine - hopefully.

Trips to seaside towns have always been popular in the summer and that will likely be the case once again this year. While some may get the train, many will drive as it is quicker and more convenient.

However, this usually means you have to pay for parking and it can be quite expensive in certain areas. A study conducted by Motorscan has now revealed which seaside towns have the most expensive parking charges. The areas were ranked based on the average cost of a parking space within a 30-minute walk of the town centre across eight hours. Collating data via parkopedia, top of the list came Brighton, with motorists shelling out a whopping £24.21 per day on average.

That was nearly twice as much as what motorists pay when heading to Newquay in Cornwall, with parking charges £12.32 on average. Falmouth was a close third with visitors paying £12.12. Those heading to Southend-on-Sea in Essex paid an average of £11.50 while average parking charges in Bournemouth were £10.42. According to the study, those wanting to get value for money should head to St Andrews in Scotland, with an average cost of just £1.90 for eight hours of parking.

Other notable mentions are Colwyn Bay in Wales which came in cheap at £5.84, Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset which charges £5.33 on average and Morecambe which has an average car parking charge of £4.33.

Head of vehicle intelligence at Motorscan, Oliver Thompson, said: "As evidenced by our latest study, parking costs can significantly impact holiday experiences, especially during peak periods like Easter half term. Brighton's staggering average parking fee of £24.21 tops the charts, highlighting the financial strain families may face when planning beach outings.

“On the contrary, St Andrews emerges as a beacon of affordability, offering seaside parking at just £1.90 on average. These findings underscore the importance of informed decision-making and strategic planning to maximise enjoyment while minimising expenses during holiday travels. Just make sure that you’re prioritising safety and security when deciding where to park your car too."
