Gordon Ramsay mocked by chef over 'dry' £29.50 burger on sale at Harrods

Gordon Ramsay's £29.50 Harrods restaurant burger has been blasted by a fewllo chef, who branded his pricey dish "dry".

Customers slated the TV chef's food, with one saying the cheese looked hard, and another saying it tasted like "vomit". But chef Michael Carr, who recently posted that he had cooked at Norfolk seafood eatery the Fishmonger's Tavern, gave Gordon some unpalatable feedback on his restaurant's Double Stack Smash Burger.

The burger, which consists of two parmesan beef patties, mozzarella, roasted jalapeños, rocket, pickled shallots and jalapenos mayo, was being promoted by Harrods on Instagram, with a short clip of it being constructed.

The post was captioned: "A moment for the burger of the month. Inspired by our head chef’s memories of her grandma cooking meatballs, this double stacked smashed beef and parmesan smash burger is topped with roasted jalapeños, mozzarella and a jalapeño mayonnaise. Available for a limited time."

Followers are advised they can book a table at Gordon Ramsay Burger, in the posh department store in Knightsbridge, west London. But MasterChef professional star Carr, who owns a catering company, replied: "Burger looks so dry." Another follower added: "Sorry Gordon. But that cheese looked dried hard on those patties," with a third fuming: "Tastes like vomit.”

The restaurant opened in 2020 and is one of six locations in London. Harsh critic Gordon, who holds seven Michelin stars, is used to dishing it out himself when it comes to food, and previously he spoke about his four 'golden rules' when it comes to ordering in restaurants.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2017, he said to avoid the specials board, claiming the dishes on them are always anything but. He said: "Specials are there to disappear throughout the evening. When they list 10 specials, that's not special."

He also said to be wary when restaurants boast about their "famous" dishes, arguing: "They start coming up with these terminologies, saying 'and the wicked, famous, best in the country profiteroles'. Who said that? Who named that?"

In terms of getting a decent spot in the eatery, he gave a handy little hack - always make sure you book for three people if you are going out with your partner, saying you'll be less likely to be "stuck in the corner" or plonked by the loos on a small table.

And when it comes to wine, he recommended asking for the "bin end" list - this usually includes scratched labels, vintages that are about to be rotated out, or poor sellers that the restaurant wants to get rid of, meaning you could bag a bargain.

He added: "We have a fear about talking to sommeliers because you think you're going to be ripped off. So get the sommelier to come up with a great glass or great bottle and give him a price. And make sure it's under $30 (£23.50)."
