Arch Manning, the rising star quarterback, has left NFL fans buzzing with his latest performance, leading some to predict he could be the 'next great quarterback'. Manning put on a show in his first game in a year for the Texas Longhorns, throwing two 75-yard touchdowns and impressing everyone watching.

The annual Spring game this weekend saw Manning step up to play after spending last season as back-up for Quinn Ewers. Ewers, who was tipped to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, made the surprising decision to stay at Texas for his senior year.

Ewers is still one of the favourites to be the first-overall pick in the 2024 draft, and will start the season once again as the Longhorns aim for a national championship. However, Manning's performance has sparked debate about whether he should be given more game time this year, after being redshirted in his first season with the school.

Manning threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns, including two 75-yard passes to DeAndre Moore and Isaiah Bond.

Longhorns fans were quick to express their excitement about Manning's potential. One fan wrote: "Mark my words, will be the greatest QB of the next generation," while another said: "He has to start over Ewers."

Emerging from high school, the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning was touted as a top quarterback prospect, with reported offers from powerhouses like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and more. However, he made the decision to join Texas, fully aware that he'd likely be playing second fiddle to Ewers, who himself has been earmarked for NFL glory.

Speculation swirled that Manning might hit the transfer portal in search of a starting role after Ewers' unexpected commitment to stay put, but Manning opted to stick it out in Austin. Post-Spring game, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian fielded questions about Manning's chances of usurping Ewers as the starter.

Sarkisian, the ex-Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator, said: "I wanted Arch to be able to just go play football. He hadn't really played in a year. When he keeps his eyes up and steps up in the pocket, he can deliver those balls down the field the way we like to play. It was good to see, and it's good to see some of the guys around him play with him the way that they did."

"We're very fortunate at the quarterback position to have a third-year starter to have the backup that we have." With such depth at quarterback, the Longhorns are tipped as one of the frontrunners for this year's National Championship, alongside heavyweights Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon.
