Killer nurse Lucy Letby is set to appear at the Court of Appeal today to ask permission to appeal against her murder and attempted murder convictions.

Last year the 33 year old was found guilty of killing seven babies in her care between 2015 and 2016 and attempting to murder six others. Letby has been sentenced to a whole life order meaning she will die in jail. Her trial heard she working at the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital when she harmed the infants.

A jury at Manchester Crown Court found her guilty of seven counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder. Letby was also found not guilty of two further counts of attempted murder. The jury spent 22 days and more than 96 hours deliberating the string of charges levelled against the nurse.

Shortly after her trial ended in August, Letby applied for leave to appeal against her convictions, which she lost after a single judge reviewed her arguments. Letby, originally of Hereford, now has the right to a second stage, which involves renewing her application before a panel of judges at a hearing at the Court of Appeal, which is due to happen today.

Separately to the appeal, Letby is due to be re-tried on one charge of attempted murder, which the jury at her trial was unable to decide on. That retrial is due to commence in June.
