Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon Osbourne have reacted to the news that he will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame later this year as a solo artist.

It was announced on Sunday that singer Ozzy, 75, is among the latest inductees for the honour in the US alongside the likes of Mary J. Blige and Cher. They are in the 'performer' category, which according to the foundation, recognises artists "who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock & roll."

The biography about him states: "[Ozzy] has made a lasting impact on rock music and influenced countless artists. With his longevity, enormous impact, and iconic persona, [he's] a phenomenon unlike any other in rock music."

Ozzy is already a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame through the band Black Sabbath, who were inducted in 2006. He was known as the lead vocalist of the band but pursued a solo career after he was let go from the group in 1979, reportedly after missing sessions in the studio. Ozzy has however reunited with the band in the years since.

Addressing his induction as a solo artist, a post on Ozzy's Instagram account reads: "Thank you @RockHall voters & fans for this induction. My solo career has been a much larger part of my overall music career as a whole, so this feels more special. Not bad for a guy who was fired from his last band."

It has amassed more than 55,000 likes on the platform. It prompted messages of support in the comments section, with a number of Ozzy's followers taking the opportunity to congratulate him on the honour in their responses.

His wife Sharon, 71, reacted on her own account. Sharing his post, she wrote alongside it: "Bless all of you who voted." She further commented in her post: "This means the world to Ozzy." And she wrote in a separate post: "THIS MEANS THE WORLD! Thank you to everyone who voted for Ozzy."

Ozzy has released more than a dozen albums as a solo artist. His debut, Blizzard of Ozz, was released in 1980, whilst his most recent album, Patient Number 9, came out in 2022. He has also released various live albums and compilations.

Celebrating the latest inductees, John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, commented: "Rock & Roll is an ever-evolving amalgam of sounds that impacts culture and moves generations. This diverse group of inductees each broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps."

The induction ceremony is set to take place at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 19. The various inductees are understood to have been announced in advance on ABC's American Idol over the weekend.
